Pressoir’s Summer Series was designed with the idea that the wine regions we admire should be more accessible. With that in mind, we have planned two tastings and a dinner that highlight wines from Burgundy, Rhône, and Champagne. We want to be able to introduce these wines in a setting befitting a summer evening, so there will be music and small bites at the tastings and a dinner embracing a convivial nature of wine.

Thursday, June 20 - Pressoir Summer Series - Happy Hour at Marvel Tribeca
The charming Midtown bakery Pavé is the setting for our second tasting in this series, an oasis in the bustling center of the city. We'll start with Pierre Paillard's Grand Cru Champagne "La Grande Recolte" 2012 to start, vintage grower bubbly crafted from old vine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that just hits. You'll also taste Chateauneuf-du-Pape "Cabrières" from Elodie Jaume, a promising young winemaker who will change your perspective on Grenache with the perfect recipe of very old bush vines planted on sandy soils. We'll explore many other different soil types with 20 different wines poured alongside elegant small bites from Pavé.

It is difficult to find out what makes the wines from a domaine like Coche-Dury so sublime. The yields are not particularly low, and the winemaking is traditional. The elevage is quite long but other Meursault producers follow the same regime and don’t get the same result. What makes Coche-Dury such a cult domaine resides in winemaker Jean-François Coche’s painstaking attention to details, from the vineyard to the winery.

We are delighted to host this beautiful dinner entirely dedicated to the white wines of the famed domaine with highlights from the 1990’s and even a vertical of 1er Cru Perrières back to 1989.

Of course, the cult status of this winery won't exist without the talent of the late Jacques Reynaud and his nephew Emmanuel, now in charge of the winemaking.

We have the immense pleasure to be hosting another event at Gramercy Tavern with pristine bottles from Domaine Méo-Camuzet. The estate is undoubtedly one of the most respected in Burgundy and continues to impress after more than a century in the famous village of Vosne-Romanée. It is almost impossible not to mention the name of Henri Jayer, the gifted and mythical vigneron who made wines for the domaine in the late 80's and trained current family owner Jean-Nicolas Méo.

These extremely rare wines were shipped directly from the domaine for us. We will taste wines from four villages starting with Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges before heading to the unique Clos Rognet of Grand Cru Corton, and we will end with a flourish with a vertical of the legendary Cros Parantoux, back to 2000.

Each year in Burgundy, the weather determines the style of the vintage. Heavy rains or punishing frost episodes can reduce yields dramatically but also test vignerons' skills while ideal weather conditions may also give birth to exceptional harvests.

We are extremely lucky to be working with producers who are able to offer the most authentic image of the terroir no matter what nature brings.

Aligoté has had quite a comeback in the last decade. Once almost exclusively considered a simple wine used to make the traditional Kir cocktail, this white grape that has been cultivated in Burgundy, its birthplace, for centuries and in fact shares very close D.N.A. with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is now considered the cool new white wine of Burgundy. Not only the quality has gone up overall but even some of the most respected producers are using their talent to making a cuvée of Aligoté, in addition to their well-known Volnay or Meursault. That is the case for famous names such as Pierre Morey, Marquis d'Angerville or Bruno Clair to name just a few. Come taste these refreshing and delicious whites with us for this walk-around Apéro in the Pressoir tasting room.

Bernard Morey made remarkable Chassagne-Montrachet until his retirement in 2006. The domaine has since changed its name to domaine Vincent et Sophie Morey while Bernard’s other son, Thomas, now makes wines under his own name. Bernard, the former mayor of Chassagne-Montrachet, had a real impact in the promotion of the wines from the village and his wines are still impressively fresh and lean, with an incredible aging ability.

We have proudly curated no fewer than twelve pristine jeroboams of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet 1er Crus from the illustrious domaine including the famous climats of Caillerets and Baudines in Chassagne, and La Truffiere in Puligny. We will focus on the trio of vintages 2000, 2001 and 2002, paired with the delicious cuisine of one of our favorite Brooklyn restaurants, Popina.

Some of the most compelling white wines in Burgundy can be found under the name of Pierre Morey. Pierre was the cellar master at the iconic Domaine Leflaive for twenty years while his eponymous domaine was already producing Meursault of the finest quality. A few years ago, Anne, Pierre’s daughter, took over the family business and has been maintaining high standards of excellence very successfully, following the organic farming implemented since 1993.

As expected here, the focus of this dinner is turned towards the excellent Meursault of the domaine including more mature vintages back to 1992. But we couldn’t resist including a vertical of the rare Grand Cru of Bâtard Montrachet as old as 1988, from a mere one acre plot owned by the family.
