Each year around spring, vignerons around the world start paying close attention to what is going on in the sky. Will frost cripple their crop? Will it be too warm? Or too wet? And hopefully, no hail… But even the most talented and cautious producers can only do that much when it comes to what finnicky Mother Nature has decided. This constant challenge to grow the best grapes possible and eventually produce the most compelling wine certainly creates the fascination and excitement. In some rare vintages, the stars align to bless the vineyards with excellence. The rain falls when needed while the sun gives just enough sunlight and warmth to ripen the precious grapes.
While perfection doesn’t exist, our team feels that the four vintages presented in this dinner are quite close to being ideal and are beautifully balanced. We are also particularly thrilled to offer special gems like Chevalier Montrachet, a delicious flight of Volnay 1er Cru, followed by an impressive trio of grands crus from the heralded 2009 vintage while we close this feast with a grandiose flight of 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin’s top climats.
